Looking for a fun meal to make together with your significant other? Japanese Tempura is perfect, anticipate lots of chopping, mixing, frying and moving around the kitchen!

Recipe

Tempura Batter (take note not to overtax the batter, its okay to have lumps)

  • 1 egg

  • 200ml of cold water

  • 1 cup of all-purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon of curry powder (this makes your tempura taste real good on its own!)

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 teaspoon of white pepper

Ingredients

  • Prawns

  • Vegetables (Okra, Sweet Potato, Aubergine etc)

Instructions

  1. Prepare ingredients. Devein prawns. Cut vegetables into slices.

  2. Prepare tempura batter. Mix egg and water. Add flour. Add curry power, salt and white pepper. Coat ingredients with thin layer of corn starch, then in tempura batter.

  3. Deep-fry tempura. Heat up a pot of oil. When oil is heated (place a chopstick and bubbles should form), deep fry battered ingredients until golden brown (cooks pretty quickly!).

  4. Eat it! Transfer cooked tempura into bowl/contained lined with kitchen towel (to absorb the oil). Eat it while it is hot!

Here are my versions of tempura!

(a) tempura prawns

(b) tempura vegetables (sweet potatoes, okra, oyster mushrooms)
